(Torrance, CA) August 16, 2023 – CONSTANT is proud to announce that we recently worked with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to develop a Guide for Integrated Evacuation Planning for Jurisdictions and Individuals with Access and Functional Needs (AFN). The Guide is now available on Cal OES’s Office of Access and Functional Needs (OAFN) website, and has been crafted to provide a forward-leaning approach to successful evacuation operations.
Evacuation planning and systems have traditionally been crafted without consulting individuals with limited mobility or other AFN, which leads to fundamental gaps in the way many jurisdictions address the issue of emergency evacuation for the whole community.
This Guide provides local jurisdictions with guidance, best practices, and informational resources needed to strengthen their plans for the successful evacuation of individuals with AFN in disasters. It includes tools jurisdictions can use to provide integrated evacuation operations to all members of the community, including individuals with AFN, in collaboration with partners such as transportation providers. The document also lists resources that individuals with AFN can use to develop personal evacuation plans to enhance their own safety, security, and health prior to and during disasters.
