CONSTANT Recommends: WHO Considerations for Mass Gatherings During COVID-19 Outbreak

The global response to the COVID-19 outbreak has increasingly become more enormous. As our communities navigate the outbreak, CONSTANT would like to provide more resources that we think would be extremely helpful for some of our partners.

Given the recent cancellations of Carnival in Italy and concerns for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, COVID-19 could potentially have widespread implications for mass gatherings and events of all shapes and sizes. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a set of “Key Planning Recommendations for Mass Gatherings in the Context of the Current COVID-19 Outbreak.

The set of recommendations help organizers of mass gatherings and large-scale events establish planning goals and improve public health communication with local authorities. Factors such as crowd density, participant registration, and participant ages can have a huge impact on the potential risks for COVID-19 spread. Anyone with plans for large gatherings in the near future should review the document below.
